Urban Traffic Commander Kids

Urban Traffic Commander Kids — press play to start

Urban Traffic Commander Kids is a simplified version of the classic Traffic Commander game, rebuilt for younger players. You manage traffic lights at an intersection — clicking a light cycles it between green and red — and your goal is to let cars pass through without colliding with each other. Levels start with one simple intersection and a few cars, and they climb in complexity from there: more lanes, more crossings, more cars per minute.

How to play

You click on traffic lights to change their state. Cars drive automatically and obey whatever light state you’ve set. Two cars entering an intersection from perpendicular directions on green will collide, which fails the level. The skill is sequencing red and green between competing flows so that one lane stops while the other proceeds, then swapping before either direction queues too long.

Controls

  • Mouse: click a traffic light to toggle its state (red or green).

Tips & tricks

  • Alternate flows in even cycles. Holding one direction green too long means the perpendicular queue overflows.
  • Watch the queue length, not the screen. A car about to enter the intersection matters more than ten cars far away.
  • Pre-stop slow flows. If one direction has fewer cars, give it red first; the higher-traffic direction needs more green.
  • Use the failure screen as feedback. Watch which lane the crash happened in, then prioritize that lane’s timing next attempt.

What makes it good

We picked it because the simplified rules don’t water the game down — they just remove the busywork that grown-up traffic sims add. The core “balance two flows” puzzle is intact and reads cleanly for kids.
