Virus Destroyer

Virus Destroyer — press play to start

Virus Destroyer is a minimal vertical shoot-em-up. Your fighter plane sits at the bottom of the screen, viruses and enemy ships descend from the top, and you slide your fighter left and right to dodge incoming enemies while the plane auto-fires (or you tap to shoot, depending on the enemy type). The score is your survival time. There are no power-ups, no upgrades, no shop — just movement, shooting, and how long you last before a collision.

How to play

You move the fighter by swiping or dragging left and right along the bottom edge. The plane fires automatically at whatever is in front of it, so positioning is what defines your damage output. Enemies fall in patterns that telegraph slightly — read the pattern, slide to the gap, fire through the cluster. As you survive longer, enemy density and speed climb, until the screen is dense enough that a single misread is fatal.

Controls

  • Mouse: drag left and right at the bottom of the screen to move the fighter.
  • Touch: swipe or drag left/right; tap to shoot when prompted.

Tips & tricks

  • Center your fighter by default. The edges give you only one direction to dodge.
  • Read patterns two enemies ahead. Reacting to the closest enemy puts you in the path of the second one.
  • Don’t chase points. Picking off every enemy is impossible at high density — survive instead.
  • Take a break at thirty seconds. Reaction speed dips fast on auto-fire shooters, and a fresh attempt scores better than a tired one.

What makes it good

We picked it because the minimalism is the design — no upgrades to hide behind, no microtransactions to skip difficulty, just survival time and the player’s reading of patterns. That’s what a vertical shooter is supposed to be.
